1960s Nigerian Pulp Fiction

Pamphlets and writings largely by Nigerian men. The first books were published in 1947, with the majority of works published in the 60s, post-independence.

They explore various everyday themes - life, love, sex, romance, marriage - and showcase the publishing industry in Nigeria at the time. The curated selection below includes links to the pamphlets themselves as well as reviews, discussions, research and more, on them.

As a lifelong learner and student of identity, these early explorations of popular fiction are fascinating and pay tribute to the early histories of Nigerian thought, expression, and connection.
